Tulipwood Bowl and Bloodwood Handle - South America -
10.25 x 2.5 x 1.25 - 2022 - $850. Tulipwood is a type of Rosewood. Both
woods are from South America and will retain most of their color over
time. In the early 1990s, I wanted to pair two different woods together
in a spoon. The handle is turned and the bowl is carved. I used a turned
mortise and tenon with the mortise in the handle and the tenon coming
off the bowl. Often I would offset the tenon to provide the slight angle
(the crank) that one sees in most spoons. The spoon handle rests on a
small ebony support. Photo: Jim Osborn |
