Norm Sartorius - Continuum 2013

"Continuum" - 10.5 x 11 x 2.5 – Bird's Eye Redwood - Rather than depart greatly from my spoon, bracelet, letter opener work in style and character these new sculptures continue that work but on a larger scale. We often find ourselves back where we started and we often see relationships between old and new lives, behavior, and work that may not be immediately apparent. The wood for this came from a burned out redwood slab coffee table business. I was given a single thick slab which had been charred on one side. I foolishly thought it would be too soft for my work only to find that it has incredible character and almost 100 growth rings represented. It rests on a black stained walnut base. $4,800 SOLD.
