Figured Ancient River Gum Scoop - 11 x 3 x 2.25 - 2011 -
$2800. An Australian bog-like wood, this wood is grey/black with
considerable figuring which becomes visible under bright light. The
natural texture on top of the handle and around the scoop rim indicates
the natural termination of decay and the start of the preserved area. It
is quite remarkable and rare to carve wood 3,000 to 5,000 years old. The
scoop handle utilizes the drop shaped lobes that have fascinated me for
