Norm Sartorius - Synthesis 2013

"Synthesis" - 22.5 x 5.75 x 4 – Bloodwood from Brazil - Frequently in my career customers and friends have suggested that I work larger. As I get older I fear the time for such experiments may pass so this fall I concentrated much of the months of September and October on producing four sculptures. Sticking to my usual vocabulary of form and line, Synthesis is the largest of the new sculptures. It seems flame-like. The wood is about 50 years old, originally owned by Bob Stocksdale, then sold to a wood collector in Georgia. It has wonderful character and was a great pleasure to carve. It rests on a black stained walnut base - $6800 - RETIRED. Photography by Jim Osborn.
